Memories are where the deepest experiences of space reside. Within memories, we hold onto images and the very essence of places.
The old house was suffused by the memories of a large extended family spanning over 40 years. Rebuilding is not only about meeting current living needs but also fulfilling the subconscious quest for the lost haven.
The new house’s design does not seek distinctive shapes or volumes but rather a combination of flat structural panels to create in-between spaces where light, air, and family members can circulate and interact. The architecture becomes as modest as possible to shelter the nostalgia that remains lively over time.
A set of family century-old wooden armchairs is placed beside a small garden, where Grandfather’s starfruit tree is planted.
